To give this day even deeper meaning, the concert is presented in aid of Eseltjiesrus Donkey Sanctuary near McGregor. Eseltjiesrus offers a permanent safe haven for donkeys that have been rescued from dire circumstances, have been abused or are now simply pensioners.
Eseltjiesrus aims to enable younger and older people from all cultural groups to join together in enjoying the privilege of hearing great music. The Philharmonic Orchestra consists of 55 talented musicians and offers a programme of exceptional musical items which is rightly called “Music for everyone”. The wide variety includes Mozart’s Piano Concerto (adagio section), Elgar’s Nimrod Variations (with organ), Faure’s Pavane, Slavic Dances (Dvorak) – and even Star Wars and Abba!
The concert has a twofold goal: the enjoyment of good music and support for the welfare and care of animals and specifically donkeys.
