With Chad Hendricks on the podium, the orchestra will play a selection of light classics and popular works from Abba on Broadway and Star Wars to a movement from Mozart’s “Out of Africa” Clarinet Concerto with the CPO’s principal clarinet Férrol-Jon Davids. You will also hear a polonaise by Tchaikovsky, a Slavonic Dance by Dvorak and Lord of the Dance with some popular opera overtures and pieces in between and Dawning of Orion, a piece written by John Walton to mark the death of Capetonian James Thomas in 2013 in a terrorist attack in Kenya. His family will at the concert.
The CID has chosen to support a number of organizations close to its heart. Apart from the CPYO and ringfencing some of the proceeds for Renosterveld Rehabilitation and Parks upgrades, the Alta du Toit Aftercare Centre which provides residential care and occupation for adults with intellectual disabilities, Huis Jabes, a safe house for abused women., Magdalena House, which provides parenting support and training for underprivileged mothers will be the beneficiaries.
