Weavers is a product of the CP Youth Orchestra himself, having played viola for six years and also in the CPYO String Quartet for four, completing a Business Management Diploma at the College of Cape Town last year. He was an intern with the CPO, has worked as a project administrator at Artscape and has been interim youth and education development manager with the CPO since December.

CEO of the CPO Louis Heyneman says that Weavers is a welcome addition to the CPO’s management team, while the new duties of Louwskieter and Ms Lesch are testimony to the CPO’s commitment to its youth programme.

“Louwskieter has been an efficient and effective manager of Masidlale for the last 2 years, while Ms Lesch, a product of the CPYO from about the age of 9 when she joined the programme, has studied and performed overseas and is now firmly committed to education of young South Africans.

“Weavers, having been an intern in the CPO for three years and the interim caretaker of the education and development programmes, has the skills to run the programme, much of which has been in place since 2003, a knowledge of music and the ability to play, and a passion to take music for youth to the next level. We look forward to showcasing some of our young musicians as soloists with the Youth Orchestra,” he says.
