Embracing arias and orchestral pieces from Bizet and Charpentier to Mozart, Verdi and Wagner, the programme will showcase some of the most beautiful works ever written from the Polonaise and Lensky’s Aria from Eugene Onegin (Tchaikovsky) to Song to the Moon from Rusalka (Dvorak). You will also hear Adele’s Aria from Fledermaus (Johann Strauss), the final trio from Rosenkavalier (Richard Strauss) and arias by Korngold and Rossini.
Says Magdalene Minnaar, Cape Town Opera’s Artistic Director, “This concert, my first Duet collaboration with the CPO, and together with Maestro Schmidt we created an uproarious programme of well known, yet not often performed repertoire, with the emphasis on the bigger repertoire. It’s a celebration of the fabulous singers and musicians we have in Cape Town, a thank you to Wendy Ackerman, and a night we hope the Covid-limited audience will remember for a long time.”
