Her clarinet tuition began at the Hugo Lambrechts Music Centre in Parow when she was 11 with Charlene Saayman, and continued with Becky Steltzner at the SA College of Music at UCT, where she graduated with a B Mus and distinction. This lead to studies at the Haute Ecole de Musique de Lausanne (HEMU) in Switzerland where she received a Master of Arts in Music Performance under the tuition of clarinettist Frédéric Rapin in 2013 and further courses on the bass and historical clarinet. With awards at the ATKV Muziq National Solo Competition and an ensemble win at the Philip Schock Chamber Music Competition, she gained experience in the SA National Youth Orchestra, at the Stellenbosch International Chamber Music Festival, and also when in Switzerland she played not only in Lausanne but toured to France.

Annelize returned to South Africa and became co-principal and e-flat clarinettist of the KwaZulu-Natal Philharmonic Orchestra in Durban in 2014.

Artscape’s CEO Marlene le Roux was thrilled at the collaboration between the two companies:

“I would like to thank your company for the wonderful display of Nation Building through the arts,” she wrote to CEO of the CPO, Louis Heyneman. “ This has truly been a representation of what we can achieve as a people to renew and rekindle and through our collective initiatives contribute to this country we call South Africa. The combination of artists from young Qden Blaauw to the other young soloists demonstrated the power of the arts in empowering the youth of our country and building into the longevity of the art form which you and the orchestra work so hard in preserving; the recognition of Mr. Reggie Dreyer demonstrated the ability of an artist to persevere and not give up against all odds. He is truly a symbol of the miracle of South Africa; Mr. Brandon Philip’s also again showed his professionalism and is an inspiration to our young people and the artists with whom he partners…

“Your vision needs to be acknowledged and thank you for driving transformation and bringing all people together in our centre.”
